Dark Omen is a brand where creativity meets introspection. Drawing inspiration from video game artwork and the complexities of mental illness, Francesco’s colourways are pieces of his personality, ranging from “lawful neutrals” to “chaotic evil”—a nod to roleplaying games that perfectly captures his essence.
Francesco has a particular fondness for marled light semisolids with speckles, a technique that adds depth and texture to his yarns. These colourways are a favourite because of their versatility—they can be paired with almost anything and still stand out.
A typical day at the Dark Omen studio starts with prep work and progresses through soaking, dyeing, and setting the colours. Despite the long hours, the process is a labor of love, with Francesco finding joy in the creation of each new skein.
While he identifies as a process knitter, focusing more on the act of knitting than the finished object, his yarns are designed to create beautiful, artistic pieces. When it comes to styling Westknits shawls, Francesco’s approach is all about comfort and letting the yarns speak for themselves.
